Article: Sales are a circus, but I want a spectacle

Sales are a circus, but I want a spectacle

The circus is coming!
People wait all year for Black Fridays, seasonal sales, and prices that drop “below the floorboards.” And when they finally arrive, I get that feeling— like the circus has rolled into town.

I don’t like the circus. The striped tents, clown-painted posters, brightly colored yet tired-looking performer trailers, the trampled grass with a crumpled ticket swirling in the wind, the animals and people dragged from city to city—it all fills me with a bittersweet sadness, a kind of helpless pity.
Something about the circus feels fake—like a clown’s forced laugh.

Sales remind me of that. I don’t like them, not as a person who dislikes the circus, and not as a creator.
No matter how much joy and success they promise on the posters, a sale always means we’ve lost: we miscalculated, missed the mark, acted too soon or too late, followed trends too much or not enough, got the wrong color, the wrong cut, the wrong fabric. We trusted too much—or simply couldn’t predict the unpredictable.
And sometimes, when a dress goes crazy viral, we go crazy producing it—only for people to suddenly stop buying it. Jaw drops.
But that’s business: full of unknowns.
A sale always means we made a mistake. And if a seller is laughing during a sale, it’s only to sell.
Isn’t that a circus?

UNDRESS has been creating for ten years now—more than half of them with no stock surplus. Every collection found success, and even the less popular dresses eventually found their women.
Then the war changed everything. It was like time froze, sales shrank, a major retail partner switched off our ads, and UNDRESS fell—nearly tenfold. The dresses started coming back home.
And that’s when, for the first time, we understood what “unsold pieces” really are—they’re the pieces made with our hands and hearts, filled with love, that no one bought.
And they pile up. I’ll be honest—opening those boxes makes my knees weak.

But even unsold, my dresses are high-quality, carefully crafted, beautifully made, and ready to shine. They’re like seasoned actresses who’ve outgrown stand-up comedy—the overripe peach swallowed in a morning rush. They are meant for the stage, for a performance written just for them.
They are dresses waiting for their moment.

I believe in every single dress I’ve created—especially the ones that, for some reason, haven’t been chosen yet. Because UNDRESS isn’t about trends, that white sugar, sweet for everyone.
UNDRESS is about “It’s a match!”

UNDRESS "forgotten creations" make my knees weak, because I know the glory still ahead of them. That’s why, starting mid-March—on 03.13—I’ll be directing the grandest sale of the year (I promise, no circus). It will run for a week, until 03.22.

Expect great prices, an elegant atmosphere, captivating dialogues, and unforgettable performances. Expect a sale that feels genuine and fun.

Come to the UNDRESS boutique, Klaipėdos g. 3, Vilnius.
The entire UNDRESS team—and our dresses—can’t wait to see you.
